VULNERABLE TENSIONS
2018
Dorfkirche Veltheim, Winterthur
wire mesh
500cm x 200cm
curated by Anita Bättig
A feather-light structure made of wire mesh floats in the room, suspended between the chapel ceiling and a shapeless weight wrapped in adhesive tape and paper. This seems to hold the structure forcefully to the ground so that it does not float away into the sky. This creates tensions and stretches in the wire mesh, "through which new spaces open up, but which could also break at any moment due to their fragility," as the artist herself explains. She calls her installation "Vulnerable Tensions." The installation explores the space of the temporary chapel and uses the fragile wire mesh to illustrate the vulnerability of human beings in the forces and tensions within the social and political space. The installation leaves plenty of room for interpretation and reflection – and those who look through it from the chapel into the church interior may see it with slightly different eyes: transformation is happening everywhere.
