For Wiederkehr, her passionate engagement with philosophical theories of space is a way of making the world comprehensible to herself. The complex interplay of temporal, haptic, and conceptual spaces and spatialities requires her to perceive the smallest possible space as the cause and occasion of these considerations. It is the space of her own existence. Human existence is always limited, both temporally and physically. The Hiding Coat is a material symbol that translates the essence and conditions of this multitude of spaces into a tangible form that can be understood.

To meet the high standards required to translate her idea into a material form, she collaborated with a start-up company that was developing a new, exclusive, multifunctional fabric for the outdoor clothing industry. The coat she sewed from it symbolises the various spatial dimensions of human existence. The Hiding Coat is a fragile, protective skin that physically protects against cold, wet and sunlight. As a shell that separates us from the world and at the same time creates space for our own existence; as a protective space for thought that opens up inside the coat when the zip is pulled up over the hood. As a self-sufficient shelter in urban life, it can be set up as a tent anytime, anywhere.
