‘Common Actions’ is a photographic series that began in 2020 and has been taking place at irregular intervals ever since. I invite people to engage in an exchange with me within a predefined, usually short time frame in order to share knowledge and experiences. The aim at the end of the exchange is to find an artistic form together, to transform this exchange into a mostly performative action and then capture it photographically. For me, this series is an opportunity to discover political and social spaces in all their diversity and then enter into a dialogue about them. In these times, I believe it is very important to invite fellow human beings to do simple things. Not just superficially, but really giving each other space, doing something together, exchanging ideas, creating together – there is something revolutionary about this.
The photograph ‘Common Actions No. 1: No! No!’ was created in this context, in collaboration with photographer Sebastian Mayer. He chose the perfect location for the photo shoot: a rooftop in Zurich's industrial district Binz. For him, freedom always has to do with horizons and foresight. I contributed my NO NO lettering, which I designed for my solo exhibition at the Kunsthalle Wil (2020).
Common Actions No. 2 took place in Athens, together with Gitsa Konstantoudaki: she chose the costume, described in the manifesto of freedom of action, which I sewed for her and our joint performance. She wanted to whirl the manifesto high above the rooftops of Athens, so that the wind would blow the contents of the manifesto into all the streets of Athens.
