„How to generate Wisdom - the Dinner Happenings“
2017 Y-Residency, Athen
2022 Kunstraum Aarau
Duration: 3 hours
Installation, Dinner, Happening, social sculpture
During my residency in Athens, I developed the idea of a performative vessel that I continue to stage today: a temporary space of exchange that engages all human senses. This format moves between dinner, installation, social sculpture and happening – conceived as an artistic strategy to share knowledge and experience.
Exclusivity is key: a maximum of ten invited guests enter a space created specifically for that evening. Within this carefully designed setting, a sphere of trust emerges in which language, ideas and positions can be tested anew. Nothing is recorded, and the content remains with those present. What endures is not documentation, but the way conversations reverberate in the future actions of the participants.
At the heart of each happening is the dinner itself. The dishes are meticulously selected, conceptually attuned to the evening’s theme, and cooked by me. Through taste, scent and texture, the theme is introduced and made tangible. Every detail – from the choice of ingredients to the spatial design – is part of a multi-layered installation that allows the guests to step into a temporary sculpture.
Following Hannah Arendt’s theory of action, I understand the Dinner Happenings as spaces of plurality, where people encounter each other through speaking and acting. Action here is experienced as a collective process that cannot be predetermined or controlled, but arises in the moment through interaction.
As host, artist, cook and moderator, I gently guide the course of the evening. The selection of guests – deliberately diverse in social, political and economic terms – creates points of friction, opens new perspectives, and initiates movement. The result is a time-bound, exclusive space of experience in which food, art and action converge into a complex, ephemeral whole.
